SAN RAFAEL, CA — A free wellness program for seniors is being offered through San Rafael's Dominican University.
The university's Department of Occupational Therapy is accepting seniors aged 60 and over into its free 2021 Healthy Seniors program for both in-person and online sessions starting the week of September 27.
The eight-week individualized health and wellness program will hold in-person sessions on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon from September 27 through November 15 in the Occupational Therapy Department in Meadowlands Hall on the Dominican campus in San Rafael.
Students and participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and will be required to follow safety guidelines from CDC and Marin County Department of Public Health in order to participate in the in-person program.
Online program sessions will be conducted via Zoom on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon from October 1 through November 19.
The individualized 60-minute sessions are designed to promote health and wellness, encourage socialization, and to support seniors to maintain a more active and meaningful lifestyle.
Under the supervision of faculty member Susan LeBlanc, MS, OTR/L, participants will work with Dominican OT students to maintain a healthy lifestyle, enjoy daily life with chronic physical conditions, and explore assistive devices that can make their lives easier. Fall prevention, home safety, nutrition, technology in daily living and community mobility may also be addressed as appropriate.
