Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: A Rancho Murietta family was among the last to leave Kabul before the airport bombing last month. Habib and Rachela Shinwari said it's still hard to sleep, but they can breathe easier knowing their children will have opportunities here that they couldn't have under the Taliban regime. They have begun to settle in with the help of a host family. (ABC10)There were lots of opinions in Sacramento on the recall election yesterday. People were concerned about everything from student welfare to government stability. From this article, while not everyone agrees, it is clear a lot of thought went into our decisions on how to vote. (Capital Public Radio News)A man was convicted Monday of killing his 19-year-old girlfriend in South Sacramento on Jan. 8, 2019. Damion Horton was convicted of first-degree murder for the shooting death of 19-year-old Dajha Richards in front of their infant son and Richards' 12-year-old brother. The brother called 911 to report the shooting and, when deputies arrived, he told them that Horton had been the one that shot his sister. (FOX40) Folsom's eighth annual Community Service Day is this Saturday, September 18th. Over 2,500 volunteers are expected to take part in this event, completing over 100 community service projects. Folsom's Community Service Day also includes a citywide food drive for Twin Lakes Food Bank. If every Folsom household donates one bag of groceries, Folsom's hungry can be fed for a full year.
