PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Silk Elephant restaurant on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill. A recent inspection found:Sauces and condiments on a shelf sitting directly on mouse droppings and cockroach droppings.Some cardboard lining the shelves in the a storage area was covered in cockroach droppings and mouse droppings.Four live German cockroaches: one on the wall by a sink, one on a shelf in the dry storage area, one on the rice cooker on the preparation table, and one on a cart by a sink.Old residue observed on cutting boards in the preparation kitchen, food containers, rice cookers, wall-mounted date-marking dispensing apparatus, shelving at the service station, preparation cooler lid and corners, kitchen scales, and knives.Multiple food items stored at unsafe temperatures.The restaurant remains opened while the violations are being addressed.
