McKEESPORT, PA — Police are looking for suspects in Monday's shooting death of the daughter of a former NFL and Penn State football player. Police were summoned to the 300 block of 25th Street at about 10:30 a.m. yesterday, where they found a woman dead with a gunshot wound to the head. She was identified as Karli Short, 26, of McKeesport. She was the daughter of Brandon Short, a standout football player at McKeesport Area High School who played linebacker at Penn State. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Giants in 2000 and played seven seasons in the NFL with the Giants and the Carolina Panthers. Short, 44, now the executive director and portfolio manager at PGIM Real Estate and a Penn State trustee, expressed his grief via social media. "My heart is broken," he said in Facebook post. "I've lost the light of my life, my oldest daughter Krli passed away this morning in a senseless act of gun violence. The love she had was so pure and true. The world lost a beautiful soul. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and please keep our family in your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time." No suspects have been identified in the shooting. Allegheny County police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
