CHARLOTTE, NC – A deputy who had spent more than seven years with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office was fired Monday, two days after he was arrested for impaired driving, the department announced.
Gregory Hilliard was arrested on Saturday and was charged, Sheriff Garry L. McFadden said. Hilliard, who was hired as a deputy in July 2014, was not on duty at the time of his arrest, the sheriff said in a news release on Monday. No other details about Hilliard's arrest were released by the sheriff's office.
"This type of conduct is not a representation of MCSO and will not be tolerated by this agency," McFadden said in a statement issued by the department. "As soon as I was made aware of this deputy's arrest, our agency took swift action. MCSO will continue to hold our deputies and our entire staff to the highest level of integrity."
