Beverly Hills Locals Show Up For Recall Election Voting

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Hills locals waited their turn in a long line on Tuesday's gloomy morning to cast their votes in the gubernatorial recall election. California voters will decide Tuesday whether to remove Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from office. Polling as of 9 a.m. Tuesday projected Newsom to keep his position, with 57 percent of voters voting against removing Newsom from office. Should he be removed, Republican candidate Larry Elder was projected to replace him, with 29 percent of the vote, a plurality among the named candidates vying for Newsom's job. Staff members greeted Beverly Hills locals inside City Hall, working as a well-oiled machine and getting voters out in just minutes. The elegant City Hall room was decorated with balloons and flags as voters cast their votes in bright yellow cubicles. In true Beverly Hills fashion, voters removed their masks and took photos at a decorated photo wall on their way out as a bubbly security guard positioned lighting to catch voters' best angles. Beverly Hills had 22,511 registered voters as of September, with more registered Democrats than Republicans, according to the Los Angeles Almanac. There was a massive increase in voter registration from 2016 to 2020 in Beverly Hills, but a dip in turnout in the 2020 election, the Beverly Hills Courier reported. In the 2020 presidential election, Beverly Hills voted for President Joe Biden.
