TEMPE, AZ — This week, University Presbyterian Church opened an extreme heat relief center in its fellowship hall at 139 East Alameda Drive. The center is open on Monday-Thursday from noon-5 p.m. "on days when temperatures hit 110 degrees or higher," the city of Tempe said in a news release. People experiencing homelessness or needing a place to cool off "are invited to cool off and hydrate, and also connect with the city's HOPE homeless outreach team about accessing shelter, housing and social services." Last week, the city also announced a mobile cooling center called Jenny's Trailer will be available on extreme heat days around the city.
