Jazz greats Joe Fonda and Charles Kohlhase perform
Two jazz greats perform The Art of the Duo: Joe Fonda, bass and Charles Kohlhase, saxophone.
Joe Fonda is a composer, bassist, recording artist, interdisciplinary performer, producer and educator. An accomplished international jazz artist, Fonda has performed with his own ensembles throughout the United States , Canada , Europe and Asia.
He has collaborated and performed with such artists as Anthony Braxton, Archie Shepp, Carla Bley, Carlo Zingaro, Barry Altschul, and Billy Bang.
As a composer, Fonda has been the recipient of numerous grants and commissions From Meet the Composer New York and the New England Foundation on the Arts . He has released 12 recordings under his own name.
Alto and baritone saxophonist Charlie Kohlhase has been a part of Boston’s jazz scene for more than 40 years. Kohlhase has recently been leading two ensembles: the Explorer’s Club, an octet and the Saxophone Support Group, a woodwind octet that plays saxophone-oriented compositions by Julius Hemphill, Steve Lacy, John Tchicai and Kohlhase.
Charlie has also been active in jazz radio for many years, most recently hosting “Research & Development” Monday afternoons from 2 to 4 PM on WMBR-FM in Cambridge. He directs the No Boundaries Big Band and the JCM Art Ensemble at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge.
