Celebrate Divine Mother during Navratri
Come and celebrate the Divine Mother during
Navratri festivities through hearing ancient stories, learning Devi chants, creatinng Goddess art, and learning Indian folk dance.
Navratri is a nine night celebration of the divine feminine. Each day in this workshop we will learn about one verion of the 9 goddesses celebrated during Navratri (nine nights) and explore their symbolic relevce in our own lives.
What to expect:
1) Hearing a goddess story and chanting a devi mantra
2) Exploring traditional sacred art through practice of rangoli .Rangoli is a Hindu folk art, generally created on a floor on special festive occasions. We will also create Durga mixed media art, and decorate bamboo sticks which will later be used for Raas ( the stick dance).
3) Learning various Raas and Garba folk dance steps that will be practiced in a circle. Garba is a dance form coming from the region of Gujarat. It is practiced in a circle and in community bringing people together in movement and celebration. Raas is a stick dance, practiced with two or more people making music and connecting during the dance.
4) Each day will end with Aarti. Aarti is a devotional practice where jyoti (flame of light) is used to purify our senses and the space around us. It is first offered to the goddess altar.
This event is for adults only.
Masks required.
What to bring:
*Water bottle
*Snacks or food (for yourself)
*Clothes that can be stained or an apron for art
*Change of clothes for dancing (sarees, kurtas, skirts, fancy shirts or whatever you are comfortable in).
*Goddess related item for the altar (optional)
