Description

Hello! My name is Megan and I am an English tutor in the Portland/Vancouver area. I love learning languages, reading books, watching TV and movies, and studying history. I have a wide range of interests and feel comfortable talking about anything and everything! I offer online tutoring lessons starting at $30 an hour, and in-person lessons at $40 an hour. As a language learner myself, I think I can relate to my students and make them feel more at ease about their own ability. I believe that learning is a life-long process, and mistakes are often how we grow and improve. I speak Chinese at an A2-B1 level, so if you are a native Chinese speaker we can also speak Chinese. I am TEFL certified and have experience teaching adult learners in both group settings and one-on-one. I offer business English lessons, conversation classes, writing critique and feedback, and many other customized lesson plans so that we can adapt the lesson to your interests and needs. I also have extensive experience teaching English to Very Young Learners between the ages of 4-7. At these young ages, I believe it is important to build up children’s self-esteem and make learning English fun and enjoyable. That way, when they are older and able to concentrate harder on their studies, they have positive associations with English and are more motivated to learn. I believe that the exchange of ideas and culture is an important part of the learning process and seek to find material that is both engaging and thought-provoking. All my teaching experience has taken place online, so I feel comfortable with a variety of lesson plan styles, including the use of such things as online videos and games, Google Docs, PowerPoint, and more. Some of my happiest moments in teaching have been when I’ve seen a shy student come out of their shell and feel more comfortable in class, talking and laughing with me with no worries. It brings me so much joy to see my students make progress and to see how proud they are of their own achievements. It is my goal as a teacher for my students to not only learn English, but to become happier and more confident as well.
