Description

Bike to the Beach (B2B) for autism is looking for an individual to assist with event support (basic bike mechanic skills preferred) to assist with our 100-mile charity event from Boston, MA to Newport, RI. B2B's mission is to increase awareness for autism through Autism Speaks while inspiring achievement and personal empowerment through the strength of teamwork. We have 100 riders registered for this charity ride for autism, but can use more mechanics to assist with the ride. We will provide transportation if you do not have a car of your own. We will leave the starting line at 5 AM, and our event support/mechanics will ride along the route in chase cars to support our riders with any bike issues that they have. The most common issue is flat tires, so those who know how to assist with basic bike maintenance are invited to help with this great event. We could also use some seasoned bike mechanics who can fix more advanced issues, such as broken chains, gear issues, etc. We are prepared to pay $15-20.00 per hour for event staff to help out the day of the ride. The event starts at 5 AM and will end around 5 PM on Saturday, September 18th; however, the route is long enough that we can be flexible with your start and finish time. For example, one could start at 5 AM and leave at 10 AM or start at 9 AM and leave at 4 PM. Some of the highlights of the NE ride include: riding through the streets of Boston in the pre-dawn hours, out into the rural suburbs of Boston to Woonsocket and Providence, down the Blackstone and East Bay Bike Paths, over the Mt. Hope Bridge and into Newport, finishing on Ocean Drive finishing at Sail Newport Sailing Center, where a crisp dip in the ocean and great post-ride festivities await!
