Join us at The Hill Street Country Club as we celebrate by hosting a Family Fun Day with ‘Into the Current’ artist and educator Janis Selby Jones! Time: 1:30pm - 4pm Location: 530 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA All Ages Welcomed! AGENDA: Begin the day at the beach for a community cleanup, and then join us in the gallery for hands-on art and education stations that will engage kids of all ages as they learn about plastic pollution. Activities include:
•Nurdle Search—use a magnifying glass and sift through sand to find nurdles and microplastics. Watch The Nurdles Quest for Ocean Domination
•Short-Sighted Shades and Plastic Pledge—write a pledge, post a selfie
•Guess the Number—How many plastic straws, caps, or spoons in the jar?
•Mystery Plastic—examine a piece of plastic debris and try to figure out what it is, who might have owned it, and how it might have ended up on the beach
•Book Nook—read Sea Change (a wordless picture book about a little girl who creates with plastic found on the beach and inspires others)
•Making to Make a Difference—create a design with washed and sorted plastic debris and photograph it (Nothing gets glued down; it goes back in the bin for someone else to use.)
•Scavenger Hunt—Can you spot it in one of the Garbage Patches?
You don’t have to sign up with an organization to take part in Coastal Cleanup Day. Simply picking up litter in your own neighborhood can make a big difference because all drains lead to the ocean!! 💚 Sign up to volunteer in Oceanside: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register Protect Your Front Yard Cleanups with I Love a Clean San Diego https://cleanupday.org
