BROOKLYN, NY — One of the five bridges over the Gowanus Canal will close this week for repairs, according to transpiration officials.
The Third Street bridge will shut down for construction each night between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Monday, DOT announced. The closures will last until Sept. 24.
The bridge has two traffic lanes and two sidewalks.
During construction, transportation officials said Brooklynites can use the Ninth Street and Union Street bridges as alternative routes.

Work was also done this summer on the Carroll Street and Union Street bridges.
The Third Street bridge is one of the oldest bridges that offers a path over the waterway. It was originally built, like the Union Street bridge, in 1905.
The Carroll Street bridge, which was first opened in 1889, is the oldest bridge on the canal.
