Vincent Golembiowski, at 88, received a distinction he never thought he'd see – his long-delayed high school diploma--even though Vincent never completed high school. How could that be? Well, Vincent realized at the ripe old age of 17, that he had a choice: get drafted into the Korean War, or join the armed services of his own volition. Vincent chose to sign up with the Air Force but had to drop out of high school to do so. His choice was a successful one, as Vincent became an F-86 fighter jet crew chief, a challenging job indeed. Back in the States, Vincent became a Sandusky County deputy sheriff, married, and raised a family. It's his son, Michael, who knowing that Vincent still cherished his remaining high school friends, asked the Clyde-Green Springs School District if they could award his dad a diploma. They agreed.
