Milton Man Dies After Falling From Stairs Near MBTA Station

BOSTON — Police say a man from Milton died over the weekend after using stairs near an MBTA train station that had been deemed unsafe. State police were notified by MBTA Transit Police around 1:30 p.m. Saturday that a body was found across from the JFK/UMASS station at 599 Old Colony Avenue. The body found was of David K. Jones, 40, of Milton, who was seen under the set of stairs earlier by someone passing by who called police. Jones's body was found under the stairway that connects Old Colony Road to the Columbia Road overpass. The MBTA says the stairway had been deemed unsafe and was reportedly closed for the last 20 months. State police revealed there was a gap in the stairs above where Jones' body was found. Reminder: The stairs between Columbia Road and Old Colony Avenue next to JFK/UMass Station is inaccessible until further notice.
