Veteran bassist with solid experience performing various types of latin or latin-fusion music is hoping to find a gig-oriented group to join. I understand the clavé and how to drive the bacteria with my tumbao. My ears are excellent so I can flow with the mambo or pregón. Also, I learn songs by ear, since I’m blind and can’t sight-read on the gig. So, the standard format for salsa/dance bands is probably not the best fit for me. I’m far better suited to play in an afro-latin or latin-jazz band. I had some fantastic experience playing with some heaviweight latin musicians many years ago when i was based in New York. (I worked with some truly excellent Puerto Rican and Dominican players who patiently taught me to feel the clavé.) I’d love to meet some players or a whole latin band needing a bajista.
