Other

5200 McKinley St,Detroit MI 48208

23 October, 2021

Description

Support the Detroit Bird City Project by helping us create a pathway through McKinley-Merrick Park! We will be using woodchips and cardboard to create a pathway through McKinley-Merrick Park. We will have some supplies but we appreciate anyone bringing their own work gloves, shovels, rakes, and wheel barrows for moving woodchips. McKinley-Merrick Park is part of the Detroit Bird City project to restore native bird and pollinator habitat in disused Detroit city parks. Before restoration the park was indistinguishable from a vacant lot with overgrown grass and plenty of trash. This summer, we cleaned up the park and planted 39 different kinds of native flowers and 6 varieties of native grasses. The meadow will take about three years for the plants to grow and development. See below for the park design plan! We will have sanitizing products and extra masks available. We ask that if you have been exposed to anyone with Covid-19 or are feeling unwell to please stay home. ***After registering, you will receive Detroit Audubon's bi-monthly e-newsletter, Flyway Express. You may unsubscribe at any time. ***   Our mission is to foster appreciation and conservation of birds and the environment we share. Our mission pillars are: Education, Research, and Action.
