HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Independent School District announced Monday morning that school will be canceled for all its campuses Tuesday because of the risk of flooding presented by Tropical Storm Nicholas. In a statement on the Houston ISD website, school officials announced that all after-school activities and sporting events are canceled for Monday and that people should not be in schools and school district buildings after 5 p.m. Classes, both in-person and virtual, are canceled for Tuesday, when all offices and schools will be closed. According to National Weather Service Houston, Harris County is under a tropical storm warning and a flash flood watch. Parts of southeastern Harris County are under a storm surge warning. Rainfall totals from Nicholas are expected to be between 8 and 16 inches with up to 20 inches possible in some locations.
