HOUSTON, TX — The city of Houston is closing some of its public services Tuesday because of heavy rainfall and flash flooding expected from Tropical Storm Nicholas, the city announced in a pair of news releases Monday. Houston's Solid Waste Management Department will be closed, which includes all department facilities, and trash and recycling pickup services also are suspended Tuesday. The city's municipal courts closed at 5 p.m. Monday and will remain closed Tuesday. The courts are expected to resume Wednesday. Resets will be given in person for all trials affected by the closure at city of Houston courts between Wednesday and 5 p.m. Monday. Anyone with an arraignment scheduled Tuesday must come in person from Wednesday through Monday for a new arraignment date. There also will be no parking adjudication hearings or jury service. Anyone with jury service does not need to reschedule jury service if scheduled during the closure period.
