WEST CHESTER, PA — Residents of the greater West Chester area have an opportunity to learn about local government, services, and resources that will help them advocate for their own communities. After a pandemic-related hiatus last year, the West Chester Area Council of Governments (WCACOG) has announced the return of Neighborhood University! In-person classes begin Sept. 23. This program offers the opportunity to tour public facilities and build a better understanding of available municipal services and resources. The goal is to provide area residents with the tools necessary to be better advocates for their community. Neighborhood University of Greater West Chester is open to any resident or business owner 16 or older, from any of the participating communities: East Bradford Township, East Goshen Township, Thornbury Township (Chester County), West Chester Borough, West Goshen Township, West Whiteland Township, and Westtown Township. Local officials will cover topics including the local government in Pennsylvania, stormwater, public safety, planning, zoning and land development, road and trail projects, public works, and public finance and taxation. The cost to register is $10 for the eight-week program. Class size is limited. Sessions will be held on Thursdays at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted, at locations in the greater West Chester area.
