Boil Order Lifted After Final 40 Samples Show Clean Results

PLAINFIELD, IL — After four days under an emergency boil order, village staff lifted the directive Monday night after results from the final 40 water samples taken over the weekend came back with no signs of Coliform or E. coli bacteria. Between Saturday and Sunday, 80 samples of water were tested for the bacteria, all of which have come back clean, officials said. Two sets of 40 satisfactory samples of water were required to lift the boil order. Village officials places Plainfield under the emergency directive after tests results, which were first gathered Wednesday and retested afterward, showed "unacceptable levels" of E. coli bacteria. The order lasted for four days. Mayor John Argoudelis said earlier Monday that it's "highly likely" the positive sampling was a false positive, Patch reported. Now that the boil order lifted, District 202 officials said all students will return back to in-person learning on Tuesday. Although Plainfield residents have gotten the green light to safely drink their water, officials said in a news release those who wish to continue taking extra precautions, including cleaning faucets and aerators, disposing of ice cubes, and replacing or cleaning their house's water faucet filtration system.
