INDIO, CA — An inmate who died in his jail cell early Sunday morning was not the victim of foul play, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The inmate, whose identity has not been released, was found unresponsive around 1:06 a.m. Sunday by deputies conducting a routine security check at the county's John Benoit Detention Center, the department reported. Officials administered life-saving measures before fire department personnel and American Medical Response paramedics took over. The man, whose identity has not been released, was ultimately pronounced dead at the jail facility. His cause of death will be determined by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau. "There are no signs of foul play and due to the ongoing status of the investigation, no further information is available at this time," the sheriff's department stated.
