Description
PITTSBURGH, PA — Mask mandates would return to Allegheny County under legislation to be introduced at Tuesday's county council meeting by council members Olivia Bennett and Bethany Hallam.
The measure would require masks at all indoor public gatherings and outdoor gatherings of more than 250 people. Single-family homes would be exempt from the law.
Those who fail to adhere to the mandate could be fined as much as $100.
The legislation would be in effect through April 2022, although it could be amended sooner.
It's unclear if a council majority will approve the legislation or whether county Executive Rich Fitzgerald would sign it if it does.
Mask mandates already are in effect in school buildings across the state, although Republican lawmakers are among those challenging that Department of Health edict in court.
