NORTH VERSAILLES, PA — Allegheny County police continue to search for a suspect in the shooting death Saturday of a 15-year-old boy at the Haunted Hills Hayride on Mosside Boulevard.
North Versailles police were called to the Halloween attraction at 8:15 p.m. after Steven Eason and another 15-year-old were shot. Eason was shot in the chest and stomach and died from his injuries. The other youth was shot in the shoulder and is in stable condition.
According to police, Eason and a group of friends saw the second shooting victim involved in a confrontation with the suspect. Eason and his friends knew the second victim and went to assist him, prompting the suspect to draw a handgun and fire three shots before fleeing the scene.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall with a slender build. He is between the ages of 15 and 17, and was wearing dark clothing.
Police do not know what prompted the dispute that led to the shooting.
Eason, of Wilmerding, was a student at Central Catholic High School in Oakland. The school will have counselors available this week.
Between 50 and 100 people were at the hayride area when the incident occurred. Anyone who saw the shooting or who has cell phone video of it is asked to contact the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
