Rombeau Remains Bedford Special Election Winner After Recount

CONCORD, NH — A recount in Concord on Monday of a slim margin win in a Bedford special election state representative race last week did not change the race's outcome although it did change the results, by a bit. Catherine Rombeau, a Democrat, bested Linda Rea Camarota, a Republican, on Sept. 7 by a 37-vote margin — a minuscule amount, after more than 4,600 votes were cast. They were running to replace State Rep. David Danielson (R-Bedford), who died in late May. A recount was held at the state archives building which changed the vote total slightly — Rombeau gained three votes while Camarota lost one, making the margin 41 votes. Democrats called it a historic win since Bedford has always been considered a Republican community. According to a post on InDepthNH.org, Republicans have a 12 percent voter registration advantage to Democrats with undeclared or indie voters having no allegiance to any political party.
