CMPD Homicide Investigation After Body Found Sunday In Park

CHARLOTTE, NC —Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit announced that a man was found dead in the Pressley Road neighborhood on Sunday, and the death has been ruled a homicide. According to a release, at approximately 11:20 a.m. officers from the CMPD Westover Division responded to a "check the welfare" call for service at a park in the 3900 block of Manchester Drive. Upon arrival, the officers located the victim and pronounced him dead. At that point, homicide detectives were called to conduct an investigation, while Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence, police said. Also responding to the scene were: representatives from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, Medic-the Mecklenburg County EMS agency - and the Charlotte Fire Department, according to the CMPD. The CMPD has not released any further details about the victim's identity or the cause of death, nor did it indicate possible suspects or a motive for the alleged homicide. The department said the investigation is active and ongoing. The CMPD has asked anyone with information about this incident to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide unit detective. Detective Savelle is the lead detective assigned to this case, according to the department.
