Description
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester drivers should expect a much different experience along Pleasant Street/Route 122 by the end of this week.
MassDOT will shut down a portion of the road in Worcester's Tatnuck area beginning Monday night for a restriping project that will remove a northbound driving lane and add a buffered bike lane and more pedestrian crossings.
The repainting will cover the stretch of roadway between the airport rotary and the Paxton town line — an area where drivers often exceed the speed limit, and where pedestrians have been hit before. In June, a 12-year-old was hit and injured near Tarrytown Lane and Pleasant Street while attempting to cross after getting off a school bus.
The overnight project will also include the installation of pedestrian crossing warning signs and mid-block crosswalks, plus repainting existing crosswalks.
The repainting work will be done overnight from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, and from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to MassDOT.
