Following a season lost to COVID, Long Island high school lacrosse witnessed a terrific comeback this past spring, with exciting games that continued into the county championships in Nassau and Suffolk, and then even more excitement for the Long Island Championships. Add to all this the talent showcased at the inaugural Metzger Cup, award winners who are on their way to exiting college careers and the story about young boys playing the game for the first time through the Police Athletic League. The highlights of the season are featured in a September edition of Social Life magazine that also pays tribute to Jim Amen, an athletics leader locally and nationally for six decades who has been recognized by several halls of fame. Jim’s advice to his students: “Work hard, be resilient, and have grit, because not everything goes according to plan. Sometimes we learn more from defeat than we learn from victory.” Jim and Long Island lacrosse benefactor James Metzger are featured on the cover of the issue. Here’s the link, turn to page 51.
