Celebrate International Day of Peace and learn about human rights On Saturday, the 18th of September, the Church of Scientology Central Ohio will host an Open House Event in collaboration with United for Human Rights. This event will cover the impact of Human Rights in our society and how anyone can contribute to making Human Rights a reality. The presentation includes several audiovisual presentations including the award winning short-film "The story of Human Rights". The Special Guest Speaker will be Mona Al-Hayani. She is the Vice-President of the Toledo Federation of Teachers where she focuses on human trafficking, human rights, and social justice issues. Mona is the Chair of School Education for the Lucas County, Ohio Human Trafficking Coalition. She is a 26 year history teacher in the Toledo Public Schools, and the creator and advisor of Students for Change where students explore human rights and social justice issues and learn to take informed action in their communities. Mona is the recipient of the 2020 YWCA Milestones Award: A Tribute to Women: Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women; the 2020 Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Ohio History Teacher of the Year; 2019 Ohio Teacher of the Year; 2019 University of Toledo College of Education Outstanding Alumna. The doors open at 1:30 and the event will start at 2:00pm. Guests are free to stay around after the event for further information as well as networking. Light refreshments will be served.
