Description

This class teaches the basics of programming and using an Arduino board, and is devoted to learning output by working with LEDs. The class will be held at MakeIt Labs, 25 Crown Street, Nashua. Level 0—“How do you spell LED?”—If you've always wanted to learn to program an Arduino board (trust me, it's waaaaaaaaay cool), but didn't know where to start, I'll be teaching a level 0 drop in class (or more than one) for absolute beginners. This class includes getting started and how to do basic output via controlling several single LEDs. (Slides are here, if you want to see what we are covering: Arduino Level 0 ) This a hands-on class, and is suitable for adults and children approximately ages 10 and up. Upcoming next-level classes: Level 1—“No, this one goes here, that one goes there.” Level 2—”I didn't think it really would catch fire.” Prerequisites First, make sure you have an Arduino board and some parts. (See below.) Virtually any Arduino Uno kit will work for this, and I will be happy to verify any you want to try for validity. Then, run through the Arduino Prerequisites—the fun stuff you’ll need to do before the classes begin. There’s nothing difficult there. Equipment recommendations: Here are some specific recommendations. If you have one you like, and are unsure about it, I will be happy to approve/veto it. These kits are built by a number of manufacturers according to Arduino standards, and have gotten more inexpensive every time I have checked. Generally they come with value-added things like additional tutorial software, fun components, or cases, but they all provide an Arduino Uno and electronic parts.
