quail chicks, easy to raise for pets, fresh eggs

Description

Quail are neat little pets, fairly quiet (the girls make little cricket noises), can even be kept in places chickens sometimes can't (can hide them easily from your HOA). The chicks will need a brooder for a couple weeks until feathered; a brooder box, tank, or cage with a bulb over it will work. They start laying eggs as young as 6 weeks (yes, weeks) old, though 8-10 weeks is more typical. 3 quail eggs equals about one chicken egg, so a set of 3-4 females can keep you in fresh eggs daily. The eggs are also very tasty as tiny pickled eggs, deviled eggs, for baking, etc, as quail eggs are very nutritious and have higher protein per gram, than chicken eggs. Quail can also be raised as meat, a mature quail at 10 weeks of age weighs about 10+ ounces, more for the Jumbo variety, so one quail can make a nice serving of healthy fresh meat raised in your own wholesome environment rather than a crowded battery cage living in their own poo and unable to walk like too many commercial chickens. They are very easy to process, it can even be done over a trashcan in your kitchen. The meat is darker, and similar to turkey, high protein and lower fat than other common poultry, and cooks like other poultry dishes though because it is lower fat it can dry out faster, so works better in moist cooking, or adding some extra fat/oil of your choice. My favorite is wrapped in bacon and smoked or grilled, or ground and spiced for quail tacos. I have chicks available now as a set of 5 for $10. More available at a wholesale rate for more than 20 chicks, please email with how many chicks you are looking for. Chicks are straight run, meaning not sexed. I also have some adults available 7-9 weeks old, starting to lay eggs. Sets of 4 females and 1 male for $35. Individual females are $8 each.
