Description
QPR — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. This training proceeds the My Ascension screening event. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. What is a Gatekeeper? According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (2001), a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide. WHAT IT COVERS Much like CPR, QPR follows a Chain of Survival, including: Early Recognition of suicide The sooner warning signs are detected and help sought, the better the outcome of a suicidal crisis will be.Early QPR Asking someone about the presence of suicidal thoughts and feelings opens up a conversation that may lead to a referral for help.Early intervention and referral Referral to local resources or calling 800-273-8255 for evaluation and possible referral is critical.Early Advanced Life Support As with any illness, early detection and treatment results in better outcomes.Studies show that the program reduces the social distance created by negative attitudes and perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses. Upon completion, attendees will receive certification in QPR, along with documentation for 1 Hour of Continuing Education Credit. THIS SESSION, FROM 4:30-6:00PM, IS BEING HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DOCUMENTARY SCREENING EVENT OF "MY ASCENTION" WHICH WILL START IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CLASS. A SEPARATE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AT: https://my-ascension-wadena.eventbrite.com ATTENDANCE IS LIMIT TO 40 PARTICIPANTS, SO REGISTER TODAY!
