Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: A video shows an elderly woman being accosted, robbed and pushed to the ground outside of People Market on Stockton Blvd on Friday. The 73-year-old is recovering from her injuries at home. The woman's children are sharing the surveillance video in hopes someone may recognize the person behind the crime. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office has a detective assigned to the case. They plan to check other nearby businesses for surveillance video because they don't have a clear description of the suspect yet. (CBS Sacramento) I hope you don't have a hankering for sushi today. Mikuni is closing all of its nine Sacramento locations on Mondays due to a staffing shortage. Management has been trying to staff up, but have had limited success. A job fair that Mikuni hosted a couple of months ago resulted in only three applicants. Owner Chef Taro Arai says he'd like to add 20 to 30 more people per location. He's offering 401(k) benefits, higher wages, worker referral bonuses and even gift cards as incentives. He remains hopeful that he will be able to reopen on Mondays soon. (KCRA3)Sacramento basketball icons Chris Webber and Rick Adelman of the Sacramento Kings and Yolanda Griffith of the Sacramento Monarchs, were among several who were officially inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday night. The 2020 class, including Kobe Bryant, were delayed by the pandemic in their induction. (CBS Sacramento) The City of Elk Grove approved a two-year contract with Turton Commercial Real Estate. The contract is to help develop Project Elevate, meant to bring businesses, entertainment, homes, and other amenities to Elk Grove. Taking input from the public, the area will be a massive gathering and entertainment center for visitors. Expect to see a hotel, a movie theater, retailers, restaurants, and modern homes in the area. It's estimated that the project will take five to fifteen years to finish. (Elk Grove Tribune)City Utilities staff are inviting people to attend the "Mulch Mayhem" on Sept. 25 to get free mulch, which helps improve soil health and prevent weeds and water evaporation. The event is part of the City's efforts to keep trees and landscapes healthy during severe drought.
