CARPENTER HELPER-LABORER POSITION SUMMARY: Apex Building Repair, Inc. is looking for a Carpenter Helper-Laborer to join our well-established team of carpenters working in the Madison area. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of carpentry/construction with general labor experience. No experience? We are willing to train! To do well in this role you should be physically fit, reliable, and be a hard worker. This is a Full-Time position - Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Effectively communicate and work with supervisor, lead carpenters, co-workers, and customers • Follow instructions and all safety procedures, be ready to learn from on-the-job training • Assist operations personnel, supervisors, carpenters, maintenance personnel, painters, and other tradespeople • Responsible for keeping and maintaining a safe and clean workspace, secure job sites daily • Prep and clean work sites, clear obstacles and hazards, dispose of debris and waste materials properly • Gather construction materials for workers to handle on job sites, load and unload materials from trucks • Place tools and equipment in position for carpenters, painters, and other tradespeople on-site • Read and interpret blueprints, assembly instructions and similar directions • Operate a variety of carpenter’s hand and power tools, including drills and other woodworking machines • Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions, drill holes in lumber. Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling in place for fastening or cutting. Frame wood, set doors and frames, install trim and cabinets, smooth and sand surfaces using power sanders. Cut and install insulation, etc. • Cut and fit tile or linoleum, spread adhesives to prep for tile work, install toilets, sinks, etc. • Other manual duties as directed MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • General Laborer/Carpentry Experience: 1+ years preferred • Candidate should possess a strong work ethic and professional pride, must be punctual and reliable • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, and problem solve construction issues • Must be well organized and have high regard for detail and quality • Any mechanical and/or computer experience, plus good math skills would be helpful • Must have hand tools (hammer, tape measure, tool belt, basic carpentry tools) • Candidate should have excellent stamina, must be in good physical condition with no limitations. • Ability to do physical labor, strenuous physical tasks and sustain this work for several hours.
