Are you seeking an adventure and the opportunity to be a part of a dedicated team who is building and running a sanctuary for Kaua`i's homeless animals? The Kaua`i Animal Welfare Society (KAWS) looking for a LIVE IN professional dog handler with strong (6+ months) experience working with rescue dogs in a shelter or rescue environment to care for our dogs and cats in partnership with one other caregiver. THIS IS A WORK TRADE POSITION, and we can offer FREE RENT in exchange for animal care services. At this time we cannot offer paid compensation. We are looking for someone who: -has a strong passion for animal welfare and helping rescue animals -finds joy everyday in working with animals -is energetic, active, and leads a healthy lifestyle -has strong communication skills -is personable, self-motivated, and can take the initiative to solve problems -consistently clean, tidy, and detail oriented -has a desire to be a part of a growing dog and cat sanctuary -enjoys being outdoors working and caring for animals, rain or shine (we are on 10+ acres) -can receive direction and suggestions willingly -has the skills and willingness to successfully resolve conflicts Daily responsibilities include: -exercising dogs -basic dog training -feeding/watering dogs and cats -cleaning dog play yards and cat litter boxes -administering medicine -rotating dogs in and out of play yards -sweeping and mopping floors -laundry -check ins with supervisor We do not permit on property: -Use of illicit drugs -Smoking or vaping -Heavy drinking -Visitors between 5 pm and 8 am The house is clean, freshly painted, and is simply furnished. You would have your own private room and share the kitchen, bathroom, and the use of the outdoor washing machine with 2 other people. MUST HAVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE. The Kaua`i Animal Welfare Society is a 501c3 dog and cat rescue established in 2015. We rescue the most needy pets and give them the lives they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. Whether they are with us for 2 months, 2 years, or for the duration of their lives, our animals will always have a safe haven with us. Our most recent project is a cat sanctuary, that when completed, will have the capacity to house cats relocated from native bird nesting areas on our property.
