CONNECTICUT — Following the adoption of a restrictive, anti-abortion law in Texas, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is making a direct appeal to businesses to consider moving to the Constitution State, which respects a woman's right to choose. In a video posted to his social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube), Lamont, a former business owner turned governor, encourages businesses to consider moving to Connecticut because it is a "family friendly" state. "Look, I'm here in Connecticut, we don't have oil or natural gas, but we have one of the most productive, best trained, most innovative workforces in the world," Lamont says in the video that runs just over a minute. "And that starts with the fact that we have more women participating in our workforce than just about anywhere else. That's because we are a family friendly state that respect women." He continues, "I know some of you are in states like Texas, which are outlawing a woman's right to choose. We have codified, we are protecting a woman's right to choose because that's about respect." Additionally, Connecticut is expanding access to daycare and childcare, which Lamont says, with other incentives, shows the state's family friendly nature, and makes it easier for women to return to work. Besides Texas, which is being sued by the federal government over the new law, several other states reportedly are looking to adopt similarly restrictive anti-abortion laws. But at least one company in Texas — Houston-based startup Solugen — is looking to hire more employees outside the state, because it says the new law could hurt recruitment.
