GREENWICH, CT — A Queens, N.Y. woman is accused of passing counterfeit bills in the central Greenwich business district, according to Greenwich Police. Police said Marissa Castro-Velez, 18, of Astoria, Queens, was arrested last week and charged with fist-degree forgery, fifth-degree criminal attempt at larceny, possession of a controlled substance, and the use of drug paraphernalia. On Sept. 3, officers responded to Greenwich Avenue on a report of a person passing counterfeit $100 bills at a local business, according to an arrest report. Officers found a woman who was later identified as Castro-Velez by cops who were working on the Avenue, police said. Police said Castro-Velez tried to purchase about $650 worth of merchandise using counterfeit U.S. currency. During a search of Castro-Velez, officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said. Castro-Velez was able to post her $2,500 bond. She was given a Sept. 17 court date in Stamford.
