JERSEY SHORE, NJ — It's the first post-Labor Day weekend, and for those who weren't quite ready to throw in the towel on summer, it's shaping up to be a nice one.
Traffic on Friday afternoon was light on the roads headed to Jersey Shore points. The state Department of Transportation website 511nj.org was showing no backups on the Garden State Parkway from the Raritan River all the way to Cape May.
The trip from the Raritan River bridge south to exit 63 for Long Beach Island was taking just under an hour as of 3 p.m.
Traffic east on Interstate 195, Route 72, Route 37 and the Atlantic City Expressway was equally light.
The forecast for the weekend for sunny skies all weekend. According to the Accuweather forecast for Toms River, Saturday's highs are anticipated to reach the upper 70s and on Sunday the forecast is for highs of 85 degrees. There is no rain anticipated for the Jersey Shore.
Those who decide to come down for some fun in the sun likely will come down early Saturday and/or early Sunday, so anticipate backups on Route 37, Route 72 and Route 36 those mornings.
A reminder that most beaches are closed to swimming as lifeguards have gone back to school and work. Island Beach State Park announced it will have lifeguards on the weekends through September.
