LOS ANGELES —Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer will miss the remainder of the baseball season and the playoffs after Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association agreed Friday to extend the player's administrative leave, multiple sources reported. Bauer has been on administrative leave since early summer -which previously had been extended eight times - after a woman accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her during a pair of sexual encounters at his Pasadena home on April 22 and May 16, according to ESPN. Bauer's attorneys have called that woman's allegations "categorically false." On Friday, Bauer's co-agents Jon Fetterolf and Rachel Luba issued a statement about the extension of Bauer's leave, according to NBCLosAngeles.com. "Today Mr. Bauer agreed to extend his administrative leave through the playoffs in a measure of good faith and in an effort to minimize any distraction to the Dodgers organization and his teammates. He continues to cooperate with the MLB investigation and refute the baseless allegations against him," the statement read. In late August, the Pasadena Police Department announced it had completed its investigation into the allegations and had presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which will decide whether to move forward with the case. The 27-year-old woman filed a 67-page domestic violence ex parte restraining order against Bauer on June 28, which included graphic details and images of the alleged assaults, Sports Illustrated reported. However, on Aug. 19, following a four-day hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman denied the woman's request for a five-year extension of the order, saying evidence shows Bauer never went beyond boundaries the accuser herself had set. Bauer, a right-handed pitcher who signed a $102 million deal with the Dodgers this past offseason, last pitched for LA on June 28. He has not been around the team since MLB began its investigation on July 2, with his original one-week leave extended in one-week increments. MLB is continuing its own investigation of Bauer, ESPN reported. DodgerBlue.com reported that even if criminal charges are not filed against Bauer, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred retains the authority to suspend Bauer under its joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that MLB would pursue a suspension of at least one year, with multiple sources suggesting the possibility of a two-year suspension. When asked about Bauer earlier this week, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he was not thinking much about last year's Cy Young Award winner. "I think right now my focus is just on the guys here. I haven't really put too much thought into (the Bauer situation). I really haven't." Roberts said according to DodgerBlue.com Roberts continued: "We're in a good place and playing good baseball. The way we've attacked it is kind of focusing on today and who's in the room. That's kind of the best recipe." The Dodgers entered Friday with a record of 88-53 and are two games behind the San Francisco Giants in the National League West Division. The Dodgers, who open up a series against the San Diego Padres tonight, currently are in position for one of the N.L.'s two wild-card spots.
