Description

Press release from San Mateo County Libraries: Alice September 9, 2021 As children return to school, we know you may be looking for some great, grade-level reading. We've put together book lists to help you find the perfect reads for your child.  For younger grades, it is important to find a "just right fit" book. How can you do that? Try the five-finger rule! Pick a book, and have your child read a page. If they struggle with more than five words on the page, that book may be too hard. If they easily read every word, then the book may be too easy. A "just right fit" book should have 2 or 3 new or challenging words per page. List created by SMCLKidsnFamilyPicks It is essential to read aloud with children in kindergarten. Children in kindergarten may also begin reading easy readers, picture books, or non-fiction books independently. List created by SMCLKidsnFamilyPicks Children in first grade may be reading easy readers, beginning chapter books, picture books, and non-fiction.  List created by SMCLKidsnFamilyPicks List created by SMCLKidsnFamilyPicks Children in second grade may be reading easy readers, beginning chapter books, picture books, and nonfiction.
