RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead Town will hold a ceremony Saturday to mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
The event will take place at World Trade Center Memorial Park, located on the corner of Riley and Edwards Avenue in Calverton, on Saturday, September 11 at 10 a.m.
The World Trade Center Memorial Park was created as a tribute to those who losttheir lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, town officials said in a release.
This year's commemoration will be particularly meaningful since it is the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, which claimed the lives of 2,977 men, women and children at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA and a farmnear Shanksville, PA, town officials said.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar said those in attendance will honor the memory of those who were lost, as well as the strength and courage of their families and friends.
A wreath will be placed, Aguiar said. "Everyone is encouraged to take a moment to honor our fallen heroes, victims, and their families," she said.
