I'm a carpenter and entrepreneur who's had an interest in helping the homeless regain and sustain their independence for many years now. This end goal starts with: *a roof over their heads (which I can build on my dime) *assistance finding quality work that participants can commit to *physical, financial and mental health assistance/coaching & *community support The idea is to not only improve participants' living and work situations, but to dig deeper to understand who they really are and what they need to achieve what they want long term. If people DON'T want to be helped, then we simply won't help them. I am by no means disillusioned with the reality that some homeless people don't want to be helped if they have to also help themselves. This would be strictly for those willing to give it a real shot. This dream of mine is a challenge I've been looking to accept for a long time, but my biggest challenge has been finding land to build these tiny-style homes on and using them there until funding is procured to purchase land. While this could be considered a "nonprofit", I do want to make a living out of this. Therefore, I have structured it more like a business versus a nonprofit. Once our participants are financially stable enough to pay rent, the homes can make money and continue to grow locally, statewide and beyond. A large chunk of the rent will go to a savings account for our participants (which is used toward a downpayment for a permanent home and/or a vehicle/license/etc.). Once they move out, the rest of the money is theirs and any resources we have to help furnish the home will be at their disposal. From there, we will check in to make sure things are going well and help as we can to make sure participants maintain their regained independence--then rinse and repeat! As we grow, we can get into real estate and rent/sell homes to participants, open better homeless shelters while improving the ones we already have, grow our own food that can be donated to families in need when they need it, provide breakfast, lunch and dinner daily to people who don't have access to real meals or stoves and the list goes on (quality hygiene packs, odd jobs, free laundry and shower opportunities, etc.). This part is not even a CRUMB of the possibilities beyond providing homes and assistance for the homeless!
