Description
20 years ago this nation came together in an instant against a common enemy. Political views were irrelevant on 9/11 and in the days that followed. Our nation rallied side by side to defeat a common enemy.
Today the enemy is a virus, but it saddens me to know that our nation has changed. We are no longer a nation that rallies behind a common cause. Every American these days is looking out for their own selves above and beyond the good of the nation.
Our nation is obviously much weaker now than we were in the past. This nation allows ourselves to stand divided over silly political grudges.
If a terrorist wanted to damage this nation, now would be a great time because we stand divided. We are weak and vulnerable due to our indifferences. We allow our political leaders and political parties to define us as people. We have each lost our individual identities blinded by our own loathing of our fellow Americans.
If Japan attacked Pearl Harbor tomorrow, we would fail in our effort to defeat them. If hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana tomorrow, we would fail in our response. A divided nation does not have the spine to react in crisis.
