Art exhibition opening with Make-A-Wish child Melinda and local artist Edgar Medina as they debut their collaborative exhibit.
"I wish for art lessons and to have my art on display!"
Meet 10-year-old Melinda from Bellaire, TX. Melinda, who is currently in remission from brain cancer, discovered her "inner artist" and passion for abstract art while in treatment during the pandemic.
While spending so much time at home, Melinda turned her bedroom into her own personal art gallery and began to dream of what it would be like to have her artwork on display – like a real artist!
Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana knows the power of a wish and thinks beyond limits. Together with Melinda's medical team and local Houston abstract artist Edgar Medina, her dream is becoming a reality.
Together, Edgar and Melinda are collaborating on Melinda's first-ever public art installation. Starting in August, Melinda participated in weekly art lessons with Edgar, and they created an exhibit of 13 custom art pieces inspired by Melinda's cancer journey titled "Moments Through Seasons".
The exhibition will be displayed at Laura Rathe Fine Art in the River Oaks District from September 16th-26th and virtually at www.MomentsThroughSeasons.com. All artwork from the exhibition will be auctioned to benefit future wishes with Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana.
With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Melinda will have a lot to celebrate with her recovery and her one true wish coming to life!
