Volunteers needed to help build the future Limelight Community Garden in Sarasota, Fl!
Join us for our first ever community garden work weekend on Oct 2nd and / or Oct 3rd at our emerging Limelight community garden. This garden work day will focus on setting the foundation for the garden by sheet mulching the property after it has been mowed and cleared of debris. Sheet mulching is a simple process of placing cardboard on the ground and then covering it with a thick layer of mulch. Help transform this unused space into something environemnetaly friendly and enjoyed by all!
Volunteers, please plan on joining us for 1 or all volunteer shifts. Volunteer shifts are from 8:15-10:15 and 10:30-12:30. We will begin our shift orientations promptly at 8:15 a.m. and at 10:30, so it's optimal to be on time. All are welcome! Even if you are not able to move mulch or lay cardboard, we'll need folks to pull off tape from some of the cardboard pieces, to help refill or hand out water, or come out for moral support!
We also recommend bringing or wearing:
- filled water bottle to help reduce waste
- sunscreen
- hat and sunglasses
- long sleeve shirt and long pants
- gloves (extra gloves will be on hand if needed)
REQUIRED: closed toed shoes
Tools from home are also welcome including:
pitch forks, spade forks, hard tine rakes, wheel-barrows
Water will be available as well as a shaded area to take breaks as needed during your shift. Welcome to the Limelight community garden! We look forward to seeing you on October 2nd and/or 3rd.
Stroll over to The Bazaar on Apricot & Lime (Garden is across the street) and check out the 40 local vendors, artisans, food truck, and live music.
An indoor indie market featuring over 25 local vendors selling art, vintage, jewelry, and more. Open Thursday - Saturday 10am - 3pm. Live music noon-3pm. 821 Apricot Ave, Sarasota
