Fire Battalion Chief To Remember Brother Who Died During 9/11

TAMPA, FL — A fire service bell ceremony conducted by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Brian Muldowney will honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, including the life of his brother, Richard Muldowney, a New York City Fire Department firefighter who died on duty at ground zero. The 20th anniversary 9/11 remembrance ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park & Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins Jr. Veterans Museum, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa. The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue ladder trucks will hoist a giant American flag in honor of all those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as well as those military and first responders who have died or been injured in the war on terror since the attacks. The event will also feature unified honor guard with representatives from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, Plant City Fire Rescue and Temple Terrace Fire Rescue; a traditional rifle salute and taps; a solemn escort and procession of a solid 135-pound section of a steel beam salvaged from the World Trade Center twin towers that resides at Veterans Memorial Park. U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, Hillsborough County Commissioners Kimberly Overman, Gwen Myers and Harry Cohen, County Administrator Bonnie Wise and Assistant County Administrator Dexter Barge will offer remarks of remembrance. The event is free and open to the public at Veterans Memorial Park's new outdoor amphitheater. Lawn chairs are welcome. Social distancing is encouraged, and health and safety protocols will be observed. Attendees are also invited to enjoy the park's many memorials.
