New Norwood Fire Chief Sworn In At Town Hall Friday Morning

NORWOOD, MA - Norwood celebrated the promotion of David Hayes, the town's new fire chief, at a ceremony at Town Hall Friday morning. Hayes previously served as the department's deputy chief. Three members of the department also were promoted at the pinning ceremony. New Deputy Chief Daniel Harkins, Captain Chris Queally and Lieutenant Charles King and received recognition for their dedication to the department and to Norwood's residents. Harkins previously served as captain of Group Two, while Queally was the fire prevention lieutenant. King is a firefighter with training as an emergency medical technician. General Manager Tony Mazzucco served as the master of ceremonies. The morning began with the presentation of flags by the Norwood Honor Guard, followed by John Ayoub, a Norwood High School student, singing the national anthem before the Pledge of Allegiance. Town Clerk MaryLou Folan presided over the pinning ceremony, with remarks delivered beforehand by Select Board Chair Thomas Maloney. Morrice retired after more than two years serving as chief. He received a vote of no confidence from the department earllier this year.
