OYSTER BAY, NY — Saturday marks 20 years since the deadliest terror attack on American soil.
On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist-hijacked passenger planes slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field near rural Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The era-defining tragedies took the lives of 2,977 people, including more than 400 first responders.
Two decades later — even in the midst of a global pandemic — Americans will come together to honor those whose lives were snuffed out by terrorism.
Among those killed were three Oyster Bay residents:
Joseph A. Kelly, 40John Ballantine Niven, 44Edward J. Papa, 47
