9/11 20 Years Later: Northport Libraries Host Art Exhibit

NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport and East Northport libraries are using art to remember the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks 20 years ago. "As a Library and community, we have come together with our 'hearts' to remember and reflect upon the events of that tragic day," Kathryn Heaviside, the gallery coordinator, wrote in an email. The "Community of Hearts" exhibit was put together as more than 300 artists ranging in age between 2 and 87 drew heart-inspired art. The art exhibit opened on Sept. 1 at both library buildings, where the pictures will be displayed for the entire month. Those who cannot make it out to Northport or East Northport can view photos of the gallery above. "The paintings are truly amazing and heartwarming," Heaviside said. "I am so proud of this community and how we have come together. Thank you to all the participants who contributed to this community art project. Thank you for reminding us of what is possible when a community comes together. Thank you to the first responders, fire departments, police departments, military personal, and the everyday citizens who responded that day and every day." Artists whose last names begin with A through K will have their pieces displayed at the Northport building. Artists whose last names begin with L through Z will have their pieces displayed at the East Northport building.
