GREAT NECK, NY — Saturday marks 20 years since the deadliest terror attack on American soil. On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist-hijacked passenger planes slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field near rural Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The era-defining tragedies took the lives of 2,977 people, including more than 400 first responders. Two decades later — even in the midst of a global pandemic — Americans will come together to honor those whose lives were snuffed out by terrorism. Among those killed were five Great Neck residents: Peter Christopher Frank, 29Jonathan Lee Ielpi, 29Frederick Kuo, Jr., 53Andrew Stergiopoulos, 23Joshua S. Vitale, 28 The Town of North Hempstead will be holding a memorial service at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday. During the service at Manhasset Valley Park, officials will unveil a monument featuring a 19-foot-long beam from the World Trade Center.
